Using Required, Timestamp, and Location Toggles in Forms

Summary

Learn how to add validation, traceability, and location tracking to your form fields using Oriyent’s built-in toggles.

Keywords

required fields, timestamp, location tracking, GPS form data, field validation, inspection audit, traceability, Oriyent toggles

Overview

When building templates in Oriyent, you can enhance accountability and data quality by enabling Required, Timestamp, and Location toggles on individual fields. These settings help enforce data capture standards and ensure inspections are completed where and when they should be.

What You’ll Need

  • Creator or Administrator role

  • Access to the Template Designer

  • A form template with at least one input field

Toggles Explained

Required

What it does:

Marks the field as mandatory for form submission.

Why use it:

  • Ensures critical information is not skipped

  • Contributes to form completion percentage

  • Helps validate that inspections are thorough

Tip: Only required fields count toward progress in the Map and Forms views.

Timestamp

What it does:

Captures the exact time a field was completed.

Why use it:

  • Verifies when the inspection step occurred

  • Adds audit trail value for compliance

  • Useful for comparing inspection speed or workflow adherence

Location

What it does:

Logs the GPS coordinates when the field is completed.

Why use it:

  • Confirms that the inspector was physically onsite

  • Supports GIS map tracking

  • Helps verify location-specific claims or issues

Used in combination with QR codes and map data, this enhances traceability in fieldwork.

How to Enable a Toggle

  1. Open your form in the Template Designer

  2. Hover over or click the field

  3. Use the toggle buttons for:

    • Required

    • Timestamp

    • Location

  4. Save the template

Each toggle can be enabled individually per field.

What Happens Next?

Once toggles are activated:

  • Data from those fields will include timestamps and/or GPS metadata

  • Required fields must be filled before submission

  • These settings impact form completeness and tracking accuracy

All data is automatically recorded and linked to the assigned asset.
