Overview
Templates are the foundation of Oriyent’s inspection and data collection system. They define the fields users will complete during on-site inspections, audits, or progress checks. This article walks you through how to create a new template from scratch using the drag-and-drop Template Designer shown in the onboarding videos.
What You’ll Need
A Creator or Administrator role
A project created in Oriyent
A clear idea of the inspection process you want to digitize (e.g., lighting check, safety audit)
Create a New Template
Navigate to the Template Designer tab
Click “+ New Template”
Enter a name for the template (e.g., Lighting Pole Inspection)
Optional: Upload any files (manuals, drawings, instructions) to attach to the template
Click Create
Your new template will open in the editor.
Add Fields Using Drag-and-Drop
The template editor includes a variety of input field types. Drag any field onto the form canvas to add it.
Common field types:
Static Text – For instructions or headings
Yes / No – For simple binary checks
Formatted Number – For measurements or ID numbers
Dropdown / List – For predefined selections
Attachment Upload – For photos, documents, or videos
You can add as many fields as needed and rearrange them by dragging.
Set Field Behaviours
Each field can be customized using toggles and settings:
Enabled – Controls whether the field appears on the form
Required – Must be completed for the form to count toward project progress
Location – Captures GPS data when the field is completed
Timestamp – Captures the time the entry was made
These toggles are key to enabling accountability and tracking — as shown in your demo, they help verify if a user completed the form at the correct time and location.
Save and Preview
Click Save Template once all fields are in place
You can preview the final version by clicking Preview Form
The form layout will reflect exactly what users will see when completing inspections
What Happens Next?
Once saved, the template is available to assign to any asset within your project:
Go to the Data tab
Select assets or data groups
Click Assign Forms and choose your new template
Track usage and completion in the Forms or Map tab
